Seems like the most likely suspect
(after cleaning the hdd with 4 different anti malware apps, and manually clearing the registry (regedit.exe)), is a file called
zwangi.exe, related to some kind of search toolbar. rated as "very nasty trojan" by some safety companys
came bundeled with some unzip/unrar software i DL'ed (BitZipper (
http://www.bitzipper.com)) that came recomended on
http://www.tech-pro.net.
have checked, and both sites are listed as safe, both in WoT (Web of Trust) and AVG (the antivirus software).
even though all the comments on WoT seem to be negative, it's still rated as safe...
so, sugest, if youre not doing so already:
